Next Event: Northern Challenge Motormile Dragway in Radford, VA August 22nd

SEVWA Points update for May

The Big Bug Shootout was the 3rd race in the season with only 2 more to go.

The Super Pro Class has Henry Williams Jr and Bruce Ridgeway tied for the lead. They both lost out first round at the Big Bug Shootout so was unable to gain anymore points. Mel Shealy is running two classes this year and did pretty well this past race and jumped into the 2nd place position. Mike Gaginer and Clint Woolard are holding on in 3rd place. Still many of the others are within reach.

The Pro Class has Christy Sellers in the lead with Mel Shealy following in 2nd and gaining. Has Mel found his match? If you haven't seen them two line up at the line, that is something you need to watch. Somewhere around 2 min or so before either one of them would stage this past race. Steven Herrell is following in 3rd.

Sportsman Class has Arnold Williams currently in the lead, but 09 Champion Adam Dalton is only 5 points behind in his Rabbit. Arnold lost out in first round at The Big Bug Shootout while Adam jumped right on to the top and won the race.

We have a break for the Summertime, so you guys enjoy it and we will see you again at the Northern Challenge #5 in Radford, VA on August 22nd. Radford is a double payout for SEVWA members if you win your class! WHICH WILL BE THE LARGEST SEVWA PAYOUT. So make sure to mark this race on the calendars and tell your friends! You MUST be an SEVWA member before racing begins to be eligible for the double purse in the Winners circle. Also another one of the largest East Coast payouts will be at the Pittsburgh Classic on Sept 12. Over $7500 will be handed out in 3 bracket classes plus Lugtronic Pro Outlaw, Watercooled Shootout and Cookers' V-Dub Street Shootout heads up classes. Big Bug Shootout Results !

Thank you for attending the 6th Annual Big Bug Shootout held at Piedmont Dragway near Greensboro, NC.

We all had a Great Weekend, attending the Monkey Nut VW Shop Party on Friday, then the Charlotte Transporter Show on Saturday and The Big Bug Shootout on Sunday. Make plans for the 3rd weekend in May 2011 to do this all over again!

Many of you came on out Saturday night and camped out, but boy were we in for a surprise! A storm rolled in and gave us buckets of rain PLUS frozen participation in the form of HAIL! We had a few tents that got a little twisted up from the wind, the lightening knocked out something in one of the scoreboards, but that was about it.

Sunday they called for a 60% chance of rain, but we never saw any. A mixture of Clouds and Sun all day. We still had a good turnout, but the show car area was considerably down from years past with only 39 entered in the show. Bob LaPorte and his wife were in the state from New York visiting family and attended both events in their 67 Crewcab and snagged Best of Show.

We had lots of racing action in the Drag portion of the event. As soon as we had the green light to go down the track we let them fly. With the weather like it was, we didn't know if it would rain, but fortunately it didn't and we got everything in. The ECPRA Pro Stocks brought out 6 cars and in the end it was West Virginia's Warren Skaggs taking the win over South Carolina's Alan Fore. Super Pro had Ken Overstreet taking the win over Mike Gaginer. Pro class had a fight to the end with Mel Shealy and Christy Sellers having a stand off in the staging lanes to see which one would pull in first. After a few minutes at the line, Mel Shealy took the win this time. The Sportsman class had Adam Dalton in his Rabbit taking the win over Chaplin Rick Laws in his Ghia.

Special Thanks to Ken Fisher & crew from Fisher Buggies in Tampa for making the long haul up to NC. Ken took on a 5 second big block v8 Camero and took him out all 3 times out with the best time being a 4.7. If you haven't see him run, you don't know what you are missing. Take a moment to look at his website on the Sponsor page and give them a call with your VW needs and see where he will be next!

Be sure to take a look at the results page below for the rundown on the winners and photos. Plan for the Shootout to be back in May of 2011 and we hope that you can join us in Radford, VA on August 22nd for the next event. Have a Good SUMMER!

K & L Motorsports Dyno Day & Silver Dollar Showdown March 13/14

Thanks to everyone that came out for the weekend events. We wish the weather could have been a bit warmer! We still plan to be back in 2011, but maybe move to September. What do you think?

The Dyno Day had 9 participants and everyone that attended had a good time. The folks at RPM Performance did a great job and they even gave each one a video of their run and also posted them on their website for everyone to see.

Sunday started out clear, but gave way to clouds and that wind machine that wouldn't stop blowing! Around 25 racers and 37 show cars showed up for the event. Maybe the weather kept the rest away?  CLICK HERE FOR MORE!
