Piedmont Dragway was the place to be on August 19th for VW
Enthusiasts. The day was a hot one, but the temperatures were down from the 100
degree heat we all were having recently. The grounds were packed with VWs, Swap
meet area and some 50 race cars from all over the east coast.
The car show area had some 70 cars, but there were plenty more around the
show area that just came out to enjoy the show with their friends and family.
Fellow Racer Johnie Walker brought out both his race car of the bracket races
and his recently completed 60 Ragtop Beetle. He took the Best of Show and Best
Interior win with this handsome car. It was certainly a tough call for the
judges with Beetles such as Richard Cash’s 69, Randy Waller’s 61 and Mark
Alley’s 60 Ragtop in the line up. For

3rd place. Pro finals took Mel Shealy to his 4th win of
the year against Wes Jordan. Wes hasn’t been out all year to play and first
time off the trailer since Oct 06
Farmington
, took him all the way to the finals. Mel still remains point’s leader for the
Pro Class with Gary Zipperian & Blake May 40 points behind in a tie for 2nd.
Super Pro finals took

it, the point’s race for the next 4 races will remain a tight one. There is no
telling who will take the Championship in November for the 2007 year. Look below
